Kenya to host World Travel Awards Africa and Indian Ocean Edition 2020

The World Travel Awards Africa and Indian Ocean Edition 2020 will be Held in Kenya’s Kenyatta International Conference Center. The heavily contested bid was won by KICC and was announced in Mauritius on June 1, 2019, during the World Travel Awards Dinner Gala.

It was a double victory for Kenya as Nairobi won Africa’s Leading Business Travel Destination 2019 is Kenya.

Breaking Durban’s Domination

The Kenyatta International Convention Center (KICC) took the accolade for Africa’s Leading Meeting and Conference Center 2019, breaking the domination by Durban Convention Centre which has bagged this award 8 years in a row from 2010 to 2018.

KICC beat conference centers from three other African countries: Cape Town International Convention Center, Kigali Convention Centre and Cairo International Convention and Exhibition Centre

Big Win

“We are honoured to receive these awards. The awards truly attest to the fact that Nairobi and KICC offers the best MICE experience in the region,” said KICC Chief Executive Officer, Nana Gecaga, who was in Mauritius to receive the accolades.

“To win such a prestigious international award is a huge boost and motivation for Tourism sector. This award goes out to all of us in the Meetings industry who work tirelessly to ensure that we are at the top of our game,” said Gecaga who expressed her gratitude to everyone who voted for Kenyan brands in the various categories.

Kenya was also unanimously voted Africa Leading Destination 2019 and Africa Leading Destination Management Company.
