Last year, Kenya took the lead in Africa after winning the most awards during the 25th Africa edition of the World Travel Awards ceremony that was held in Durban, South Africa. This year Kenyan has over 40 nominees spread across different categories.

Africa’s Leading Hotel category has 2 Kenyan sister hotels Fairmont Mount Kenya Safari Club and Fairmont The Norfolk Hotel fighting against 4 South African hotels in the same category. Aberdare Country Club and Nairobi Serena Hotel are also in the race for Africa’s Leading Green Hotel
Mombasa’s Baobab Beach Resort & Spa will get to fight for Africa’s Leading All-Inclusive Resort while AfroChic Diani Beach, Almanara Luxury Resort, Diani Reef Beach Resort , PrideInn Paradise Beach Resort and Swahili Beach fight for the crown of Africa’s Leading Beach Resort.
World renowned Giraffe Manor competes with fellow countryman hotel, Hemingways Nairobi and other hotels for title of Africa’s Leading Boutique Hotel while Africa’s Leading Boutique Hotel Brand category has Elewana Collection named.
Africa’s Leading Business Hotel category has 3 Kenyan hotels nominated; Fairmont competing against Radisson and Tribe Hotel. Leading City Hotels category had Nairobi’s Fairmont and InterContinental.
SKAL World Congress 2018 Host, PrideInn Paradise Beach Resort-Convention Center & Spa got nominated for Africa’s Leading Conference Hotel facing stiff competition from 5 South African hotels.
Aesthetic Tribe Hotel rightfully got a nomination in Africa’s Leading Design Hotel.
Destination Hotels
Various African cities are also on the race for Africa’s Leading Destination among them Nairobi. Categories here extend to include Beach Destination, Business Travel, Festival & Events, Luxury Island, Meetings & Conference Destination, National Park, Tourist Attraction and even Tourist Board.
Airlines
Kenya’s national airline, Kenya Airways has multiple nominations ranging from Africa’s Leading Airline Business and Economy Class. Low cost carriers Jambojet and Fly540 also face off against one another in the race to win Africa’s Leading Low-Cost Airline. KQ’s inflight magazine, Msafiri, also got nominated in Africa’s Leading Inflight Magazine
Meetings and Conventions
This year, the Kenyatta International Conference Centre (KICC) has been nominated in Africa’s Leading Meetings & Conference Centre category.
